About
About
I’m a Mathematics Educator and Curriculum Leader with over a decade of experience teaching in international schools in the UK, Korea, Vietnam and Singapore.
What drives my teaching
- A love of mathematics, and of learning. I want students to leave my classroom curious, and to keep learning long after they have left it.
- Mathematics is everywhere. Problem solving, clear communication and critical thinking are mathematical skills, and I want students to see them at work in the world around them, not just on an exam paper.
- Rigour that lasts. Building the careful, rigorous thinking students need for mathematics at university and beyond.
- New ways to teach. Finding creative ways to teach mathematics and connect its ideas, so that it feels like a living subject rather than a list of methods to memorise. Too many people leave school believing they are “not a maths person”; I want to change that.
Data science and AI
Alongside teaching, I am studying for a master’s in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Harvard Extension School. Data science and AI are a new way of solving problems, and millions of people now use them every day, often without knowing what is happening underneath. What is underneath is mathematics: statistics, linear algebra and calculus. I believe we all need to understand where these tools come from, how they work and where their limits are. That idea runs through the projects on this site, from interactive tools for learning mathematics to experiments with AI in assessment
Outside work I play guitar, bass, piano and saxophone, and compose and arrange music. I like board games and mathematical puzzles.
